What if your next chapter doesn't need MORE? What if it needs LESS?
We live in a culture that has become very good at convincing us that MORE is the answer. More money, clothes, stuff, subscriptions, commitments, goals, experiences and productivity.
Even personal growth can become another form of consumption. Another book. Another course. Another podcast. Another morning routine requiring seventeen steps before we're apparently qualified to drink our coffee!
But eventually we have to ask: How much of what I'm accumulating is actually making my life better...and how much is simply becoming something else I have to carry?
Because everything we bring into our lives eventually requires something from us: money, time, attention, energy, space or maintenance.
And I'm not just talking about what's sitting in your closet.
We accumulate life clutter too: old resentments, relationships we've outgrown, commitments we don't want anymore, unfinished projects, guilt, expectations and identities that simply don't fit.
MAYBE BEGINNING AGAIN ISN'T ABOUT ADDING....
We tend to think beginning again means adding something—a new goal, relationship, business, house, strategy or identity.
But sometimes beginning again means removing what belongs to the person we used to be.
Think about how many versions of yourself you've already been. Who you were at 20 probably isn't who you were at 40, and who you were at 40 may not have very much in common with who you are today.
Life changes us. Success. Failure. Marriage. Divorce. Careers. Loss. Moving. Burnout. Health changes. Dreams coming true and sometimes realizing we don't even WANT the old dream anymore.
Yet we continue carrying things simply because they once belonged to us.
Not just possessions. Identities. Obligations. Expectations. Relationships. Old goals. Old definitions of success.
We squeeze ourselves into identities that no longer fit and then wonder why life feels uncomfortable.
Maybe you're not stuck. Maybe you've simply outgrown something you're still trying to wear.
WHAT BELONGS TO THE PERSON YOU USED TO BE?
Look around your life.
There may be clothes in your closet for someone you haven't been in fifteen years. Commitments you continue honoring even though every cell in your body says, I don't want to do this anymore. Relationships surviving because of history rather than because you're still consciously choosing each other. Projects hanging over your head that you're NEVER going to finish.
And here's a revolutionary thought: You can declare something DONE without completing it.
Not every idea deserves execution. Not every relationship deserves lifetime membership. Not every goal deserves achievement. And not every version of YOU deserves permanent residence in your current life.
I recently came across the concept of Swedish Death Cleaning—thoughtfully going through your possessions while you're alive rather than leaving the people you love with decades of stuff to sort through someday.
It made me wonder: Why wait until the end of our lives? Why not do this at the end of every major chapter?
What conversation needs to happen? What obligation needs to end? What decision are you avoiding? What resentment needs releasing? What unfinished project needs either completion or a ceremonial trip to the trash can?
Because decluttering isn't only about organizing a closet.
It's taking responsibility for what we've accumulated.
BEFORE YOU ADD MORE...
Before buying something, ask: Do I want the object—or the feeling I imagine it will give me?
Before saying YES: Do I genuinely have the time and energy for this?
Before starting another project: What am I willing to finish, abandon or remove to make room for it?
And before entering a new chapter: What belongs to the old chapter that I don't want coming with me?
You don't have unlimited time, attention or energy.
And despite what Amazon may occasionally lead us to believe... you probably don't need one more thing arriving on your porch tomorrow.
Maybe success at this point isn't about how much more we can accumulate. Maybe it's about living more intentionally.
Less obligation. Less noise. Less proving. Less guilt. Less resentment. Less attachment to who we thought we were supposed to be.
And MORE room for who we're becoming.
So here's your Aligned Action for today:
What am I carrying that belongs to a version of me who no longer exists?
Don't automatically add something new. First see what you're willing to release because maybe the next chapter isn't asking you to become MORE.
Maybe you don't need a bigger life, maybe you need a lighter one.
Success Really Is an Inside Job,

P.S. . If you're realizing that you've outgrown parts of your life but aren't quite sure what comes next, this is exactly the kind of work I love doing. Sometimes we don't need another course or more information—we need someone outside our own head to help us see clearly.
I offer a limited number of private VIP Days with me here in Virginia Beach, where we spend the day focused entirely on YOU—what stays, what goes and what you want your next chapter to look like.
I also work privately with a small number of one-on-one coaching clients who want ongoing support making those changes real.
If either one speaks to you, email assistant@milteer.com and tell me what's going on in your life. We'll see if working together feels like the right fit.
