One of the perks of coaching thousands of people over the years is that you begin to notice patterns.
Some people seem to create drama wherever they go.
And others, even when life gets messy somehow remain remarkably calm.
I've never met anyone who said, "Lee, my life was going great until I became too peaceful!" (Let me know if you ever meet one!)
Now, don't get me wrong. These calm people still have bills. Businesses to run. Family challenges. Health concerns.
And yes... Dogs that throw up on the carpet. (If you own a pet, you know exactly what I mean.)
The difference isn't that they have fewer problems.
The difference is they've developed a few simple habits that keep stress from running the show.
Here are ten of my favorites.
1. They don't treat every text, email, or phone call like it's a five-alarm fire.
Not every ding deserves your immediate attention.
Amazing how many "emergencies" solve themselves if you simply take a breath.
2. They plan tomorrow before today ends.
Five quiet minutes before bed can save you an hour of confusion the next morning.
Your future self will thank you.
3. They protect their mornings.
Before checking email.
Before scrolling social media.
Before the news convinces them the world is ending.
They spend a little time thinking, praying, journaling, walking, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in peace.
What a concept!
4. They've learned that "No" is a complete sentence.
Every unnecessary "yes" usually costs you time.
Energy.
Or peace of mind.
Protect all three.
5. They don't rent space in their head to problems they can't solve.
If they can fix it... They make a plan.
If they can't... They stop rehearsing it like it's opening on Broadway next week.
Worry has never solved tomorrow's problems.
It only steals today's joy.
6. They leave breathing room.
Not every hour has to be scheduled.
Not every minute has to be productive.
Sometimes your best ideas show up during the pause.
7. They don't measure their worth by how busy they are.
Being exhausted isn't a badge of honor.
Neither is answering emails at midnight.
Rest isn't something you earn.
It's something you need.
8. They move.
Not because they're training for the Olympics.
Because the body was designed to move.
Take a walk.
Stretch.
Dance around the kitchen.
Your brain will thank you.
9. They simplify.
Less clutter.
Fewer unnecessary commitments.
Fewer decisions.
Less mental noise.
It's amazing how peaceful life feels when everything doesn't require your attention.
10. At the end of the day... they let the day end.
They don't replay every awkward conversation.
Every mistake.
Every "I should have..."
Instead they ask, "What did I learn today?"
Then they let it go.
Tomorrow gets a fresh start.
So after all these years what I've truly learned is, stress isn't just created by what happens to us, it's created by how long we continue carrying what happened.
Maybe the goal isn't to eliminate stress completely, maybe it's simply to stop volunteering for so much of it.
This week don't try to master all ten habits.
Just pick one.
Practice it.
Then come back and choose another.
Small daily habits create extraordinary lives.
A peaceful life isn't found by accident. It's created on purpose... one habit at a time.
Is It Time for Your Next Chapter?
One thing I've learned after coaching thousands of entrepreneurs, executives, and leaders is this... Most people aren't looking for more information. They're looking for more clarity.
If you're navigating a business change, a career transition, retirement, a major life decision, or you simply know you're ready for your next chapter but aren't quite sure what it looks like...
I work privately with a select number of coaching clients each year and offer a limited number of VIP Vision Quest Intensive Days at my oceanfront home in Virginia Beach.
Sometimes all it takes is one focused conversation or one focused day to change the direction of the next ten years.
If you're ready to stop reacting to life and start intentionally creating your next chapter... Let's have a conversation.
